AUGUST 17-18 AT SPIRIT OF SUWANNEE MUSIC PARK IN LIVE OAK, FL

LINEUP FEATURES PETER ROWAN, DONNA THE BUFFALO, THE LEE BOYS, THE SWINGIN’ JOHNSONS, JAMIE DAVIS, THE HEAVY PETS,

The Suwannee Music Foundation in partnership with The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park today announce Suwannee Valley Flood Jam: A Benefit For Suwannee, Hamilton & Columbia Counties on August 17 & 18 at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL.

On June 24, 2012, Tropical Storm Debby settled over north Florida for 4 days, dumping more than 25 inches of rain in some areas of Suwannee, Hamilton and Columbia Counties. The Suwannee River rose to near record flood levels and dozens of sinkholes developed around those counties, destroying many businesses and homes while making roads impassible. 1500 families were flooded out of their homes – many left without shelter, cars, clothes, food or any worldly possessions. The flood affected over 10,000 other people throughout the tri-counties.

More than 25 bands including Music Park favorites Peter Rowan, Donna the Buffalo, The Lee Boys, Jamie Davis, The Swingin Johnsons, The Heavy Pets, The Legendary JC’s and many more will fill up the special Suwannee Valley Flood Jam line-up.  Full lineup below.

Two-Day Tickets are $45 in advance, $65 at the Gate and include primitive camping. Single-Day tickets cost $20 per day and are available only at the gate. Day tickets do not include primitive camping.

An on-line charitable auction will also be available to those not able to attend.  Whether in person or not, folks will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of great items including artist memorabilia, diamond and gold jewelry, music instruments, collectible items and much more.  Stay connected to www.musicliveshere.com for updates, to view the online auction and to purchase tickets.

One hundred percent of net profits from the Suwannee Valley Flood Jam will be donated to locally based charities, Love INC based in Live Oak, FL and The United Way based in Lake City, FL.

Since the flood began, the Suwannee Music Foundation and the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park have partnered with Love INC. to deliver supplies and provide relief to affected households.   These charitable efforts by music lovers everywhere have helped hundreds of people who in this desperate time of their lives have virtually nothing.  Volunteers at both agencies, along with many others throughout the three counties have donated thousands of hours to help family, friends and complete strangers, wading in waist deep, contaminated water to bring out previous personal belongings, prized children’s toys and helping families find suitable temporary homes.

What started as a class project at Appalachian State University grew into one of the largest musical events the town had seen in nearly a decade.

Acoutic Syndicate

MOTM hopes by offering the best musical talent, as well as positive environmental message, “we can change the world one person at a time”.  At the end of the day, MOTM hopes to offer a significant financial contribution back to the cause and research of renewable and alternative energy.

Live Environmental Forum – Recreating an idea from the Bonnaroo Music Festival, MOTM is hosting a live forum made up of some of the the top artists performing. This will allow fans to interact with the musicians on relevant and current environmental issues. Similarly to the MOTM particular sponsor selections, MOTM also books musicians that have similar ecological mindsets.

Food Drive – MOTM has teamed up with several Greek social organizations from Appalachian State University to host a canned food drive benefiting the local Hunger Coalition, as well as encouraging our attendees to give financial donations. The fraternities and sororities at Appalachian State have always had effective and generous community activism and we are happy to bring the two together.

Fun Quotes about MOTM:

Won a Greenie Award for Country’s Greenest Festival by Blue Ridge Outdooors:

Amazingly, the festival, which takes place on August 29, was started last year as a school project by recent Appalachian State University graduate James Hunt. His assignment was to create a business plan for an entrepreneurship class. Hunt saw a void in large-scale music production in Boone, so he mapped out a plan to bring the area a festival of its own. Unwilling to let the idea sit dormant in a class paper, he formed his own company and moved forward. Last year the inaugural event drew 2,500 people. ~ Jedd Ferris,  Blue Ridge Outdoors

“The efficient, earth-conscious event requires relatively little land space, and the organizers strive and succeeded in making the festival one of the most environmentally considerate in the country. Volunteers combed the grounds all day encouraging garbage gathering and recycling, while a village of eco-conscious organizations and companies greeted the nearly 4,200 attendees upon entry.

Music on the Mountaintop has an impressive musical history for such a young event, and there’s already a legacy of artistry being established via repeat performances from headliners and local favorites alike. Luminaries like Sam Bush, Acoustic Syndicate and Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band have performed at both iterations, helping give the event an air of tradition waiting to take hold.”

The town of Boone would do well to hold on to and foster the event, which this year became the largest music event ever staged in the picturesque town. There’s a dedicated and enthusiastic team of people and a cavalcade of top-notch artists ready to make the festival a treasured yearly tradition.”

“Stellar performances were to be expected from these world-class artists, but none could have anticipated the numerous collaborations that occurred.” … “~ Bryan Rodgers,  Glide Magazine

“One thing, though, that I really liked about some of the food vendors were those who were a little more conscientious about what was being served. For example, the food made by students using locally grown produce, and another who offered antibiotic/cage free chicken. Small things. But a step in the right direction. It was refreshing to have these types of options at a ‘green’ event such as this.

I was also pretty impressed with the emphasis they put on recycling with signs and stewards who walked around passing out personal trash bags for groups accumulating cans and other garbage to help cut down on litter found later on. I was extremely pleased with the extra measures put in place. The Music on the Mountaintop Festival is clearly becoming a great example in keeping the focus on sustainability.” ~ Jessica Maceda,  Wayfaring Wanderer

Amelia's Mechanics

Amelia’s Mechanics is pleased to announce “An Evening with Amelia’s Mechanics” at the Jack of the Wood on Saturday, August 28th.

Amelia’s Mechanics is: Molly McGinn (vocals, acoustic guitar, lap steel), Molly Miller (vocals, electric guitar, ukulele), and Kasey Horton (viola)

Despite what the oil-and-iron name might suggest, the women of Amelia’s Mechanics swap that toughness for a more urban, sophisticated take on Americana music, using luxuriating harmonies and classical swells to temper their lyrical frustrations with love and life. The instrumentation and vocal harmonies of Amelia’s Mechanics result in a genre-busting sound best described as “vintage country with a moonshine concerto.”

The band released their debut album “North, South,” produced by Jim Avett (father, The Avett Brothers,) in February of 2010 to critical acclaim and embarked on an inaugural spring tour to the delight of audiences all across the southeastern United States. Amelia’s Mechanics is currently working on their second album (at Echo Mountain Studios) to be released Spring 2011.

Johnson's Crossroad

Johnson’s Crossroad is taking their love of the old time mountain music, bluegrass, and the Texas singer/songwriters of the 1970’s and putting their own stamp on the ever-widening and increasingly popular ‘Americana’ genre, nurturing a sound they like to call “Appalachian Soul.”

The band was born in the bars of small town Lewisburg, WV. Johnson’s Crossroad performed the old songs they love and began to craft their own material. As audiences began to grow founding members Paul Johnson and Keith Minguez decided to head south over the Blue Ridge Mountains to the budding music scene of beautiful Asheville, NC where they found like-minded musicians and formed a touring band.

Their debut album “Blood in Black and White” brings together some of Asheville’s finest musicians to perform JXR’s original material. The album is steeped in the traditional country themes of lost love, lost fortune, lost time, and overcoming hardships, but Johnson’s Crossroad have clearly found a unique voice. With “Blood in Black and White” they give country music fans an alternative to the “polished” sound, though staying true to the roots that have made country music great.

“Johnson’s Crossroad is … part blues, part old-school country and part bluegrass. I guess that makes them Americana, but for some reason that label just doesn’t seem to fit. If this album was a few decades old, I’d swear these guys came up with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings. Can one be both Americana and Outlaw at the same time? Maybe so. With the gruff voice and storytelling prowess of Tom Waits and vocal progressions reminiscent of Jimmy Buffett (of all people), lead singer Paul Johnson really knows how to create a mood. He sets the scene with his powerful lyrics, and the rest of the band skillfully paints in the rest of the story behind him.” ~Brent Fluery, Bold Life

Paul Johnson – Vocals, Guitar
Keith Minguez – Harmonies, Mandolin
