Jose’ Martinez, our beloved drummer of the past 12+ years and dear friend, has decided to retire from the road and is currently living and performing in Seattle, WA. We wish Jose’ all the best with his future.

With that, we are happy to welcome the young and talented drummer, Alwyn Robinson, into the Leftover Salmon family. Alwyn has been playing with the band for the past few months and the fit couldn’t be better; it’s time to make it official. “Alwyn not only fills Jose’ Martinez’s shoes but his incredible chops and ears are going to propel the next era of Salmon’s growth.” says Vince Herman, “Look out.”

Watch this exclusive video of Leftover Salmon introducing Alwyn and performing “Bird Call” Live at JamBase HQ in San Francisco. → http://bit.ly/19GaRCm. Thanks to Susan Weiand for the new band photo!

Born in 1989 and raised in Marshall, TX, Alwyn Robinson began performing music at the age of three under the guidance of his father and two older brothers. He studied classical percussion as well as marching percussion from his early years through college, and began playing drum set with local bands in Marshall around fourteen. While studying at Texas Tech University and CU Boulder, he performed in various musical ensembles and studied a broad range of musical styles, from classical percussion to steel drum music. Currently living in Colorado, he is teaching and performing with numerous ensembles, including playing with musicians/groups such as: Ron Miles, Organization, Megan Burtt, Ayo Awosika  and Ayo Awosika amongst others.

Leftover Salmon Releases 4th Single Through Breckenridge Brewery

Leftover Salmon Releases Their Fourth Single “Two Highways” through Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado. Drew Emmitt says, “I got the idea for “Two Highways” going down the road in the tour bus on Salmon tour. It’s my attempt to describe the two worlds of being on tour and being home with the family, two very different places that each have a very strong pull on my life and are both equally inspiring and challenging in their own ways.”

“Two Highways” features special guest Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) on keys, and  is the final in a series of four original tunes that have been released since this summer through LoS’s collaboration to offering Handcrafted Music with Handcrafted Beer.

The new tunes are pre-released exclusively within Breckenridge Brewery’s 12-pack Sampler Packs through October. A download code for each song is provided on an exclusive Artist Series coaster, specially created by four well-known artists from the “Rock Art” community and packaged inside the Sampler Packs. There are also screenprinted posters of each song’s artwork available. Tyler Stout designed the image to go along with “Two Highways.” The song will be available soon on iTunes.

Leftover Salmon Releases 2nd Single Through Breckenridge Brewery:
“Thornpipe” Featuring Casey Dreissen

Because Handcrafted Music Deserves Handcrafted Beer.

Thornpipe_JeffWoodArt

Thornpipe Artwork by Jeff Wood

Thornpipe is Available This August Through Breck Brew Download Cards
Accompanied with an Artist Series Coaster and Contests

Bringing new meaning to the practice of catch and release, Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado and bluegrass band Leftover Salmon have caught up with each other to launch the second release in a series of four original songs. The new music is being pre-released exclusively within Breckenridge Brewery’s 12-pack Sampler Packs through October. Each of four song download codes is provided on Artist Series coasters, specially created by four well-known artists from the “Rock Art” community and packaged inside the Sampler Packs.

The second song available is “Thornpipe,” which Andy Thorn wrote years ago, but he believed it was missing something. While attending the Old Settler’s Music Festival in Austin in April, the group hooked up with Casey Driessen who added the missing component – sounds from his fiddle. Sound engineer Mario Casillio was able to set up a makeshift studio in the back of the band’s bus, and as Thorn remembers, “Casey was kind enough to spend a bit of his afternoon laying down some hot fiddlin’.”

“In music you’ve got your hornpipes and your jigs, but this tune is a ‘Thornpipe,’” continued Thorn. “It’s a pretty simple banjo tune with a few twists and turns to have fun with.”

Renowned poster artist Jeff Wood of Zen Mystic Studio created the artwork for “Thornpipe.”

“My art is heavily steeped in psychedelia, so when approached about the LoS Breckenridge coaster project, swirling images started dancing through my head,” said Wood. “‘Thornpipe’ is a great bluegrass tune and I envisioned a group of salmon forming a mandala spinning inside a ring of thorns. Mandalas have been used through the ages as a meditation and contemplation tool for the artist and the viewer. My hopes were that when one looks at the coaster image they will become lost in the image and, with beer in hand, it will take them to a more peaceful Colorado state of mind.”

The second Artist Series song download coasters will begin shipping in specially marked Breckenridge Brewery 12-pack Sampler Packs in mid-August. Every download that is retrieved enters that person in a drawing. The grand prize is a trip for two to Colorado for a VIP experience at Leftover Salmon’s Thanksgiving shows, with a behind-the-scenes Breckenridge Brewery tour and a band meet-and-greet. Other prizes include a band-autographed acoustic guitar made by Andrew White Guitars, which builds Vince Herman his guitars; a set of four Artist Series coaster posters, framed and signed by the band; and weekly online poster giveaways.

Gary Houston, Jeff Wood, Nate Duval and Tyler Stout each crafted their artwork with inspiration from Leftover Salmon’s new music and Breckenridge Brewery’s beers. In addition to the coasters, each artist is printing a limited run of 100 screen print posters that are numbered and signed. The posters are available through weekly giveaways on both Breckenridge Brewery’s and Leftover Salmon’s Facebook and Instagram pages. They also will be given away at special events in select bars in cities where the band is touring.

BRECKENRIDGE BREWERY TEAMS UP WITH COLORADO BLUEGRASS BAND LEFTOVER SALMON
Handcrafted Music Deserves Handcrafted Beer.

NEW Song “High Country” Available This July Through Breck Brew Download Cards
Accompanied with an Artist Series Coaster and Contests

Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado has a big fish on the line. The brewery recently announced it has teamed up with Colorado bluegrass band Leftover Salmon to deliver new music to fans exclusively through Breckenridge beers. Leftover Salmon will debut four original songs from July to October, and they will be pre-released exclusively through Breckenridge Brewery’s 12-pack Sampler Packs. Song download codes will be provided on four collector’s item Artist Series coasters packaged within Sampler Packs.

LoS_PRessShot_FOrBREck“These new Leftover Salmon songs are inspired by Breckenridge Brewery’s Fine Colorado Ales, the Colorado lifestyle, and the beauty that Colorado has to offer,” said Breckenridge Brewery’s Marketing Director Todd Thibault. “It makes perfect sense to package these songs with our beers and give folks the full Colorado experience!”

National touring act Leftover Salmon was formed in Colorado in 1989. The slamgrass pioneers created one of the first bluegrass bands to add drums and tour rock & roll bars, helping it become a pillar of the jam band scene and an unwitting architect of the jam grass genre.

Each of four song downloads will be released alongside an Artist Series coaster, specially created by four well-known artists from the “Rock Art” community and packaged inside Breckenridge Brewery’s 12-pack Sampler Packs. Gary Houston, Jeff Wood, Nate Duval and Tyler Stout each crafted their artwork with inspiration from Leftover Salmon’s music and Breckenridge Brewery’s beers. In addition to the coasters, each artist is printing a limited run of 100 screen print posters. The posters will be available through select giveaways on social media and at special events across the country.

The Artist Series song download coasters will begin shipping in specially marked Breckenridge Brewery 12-pack Sampler Packs in July. Sampler Pack purchasers will not only receive 12 bottles of Breckenridge beer, but also an Artist Series coaster, a free song download and a chance to win prizes – every download that is retrieved enters that person in a drawing. The grand prize is a trip for two to Colorado for a VIP experience at Leftover Salmon’s Thanksgiving shows, with a behind-the-scenes Breckenridge Brewery tour and a band meet-and-greet. Other prizes include a band-autographed acoustic guitar made by Andrew White Guitars, which builds Vince Herman his guitars; a set of four Artist Series coaster posters, framed and signed by the band; and much more.

The first Leftover Salmon download song available this month is “High Country.” The song was recorded between March 25 and April 4, 2013 at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver. It was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos; engineered by Mario Casilio; and mixed and mastered by Dave McNair. The song features Joey Porter on organ.

“I wrote this song while on a hike in the Collegiate Peaks wilderness,” remembered Leftover Salmon band member Andy Thorn. “It was such a beautiful day up there I just started singing, ‘I wanna be in the high country all day,’ and having fun making up verses about it.  By the time we got back to the cabin and grabbed a guitar it was basically finished!”

HighCountr2Gary Houston of Voodoo Catbox created the accompanying artwork. Houston is based in Portland, OR and specializes in scratch board illustrations, which he appreciates as being hands-on and organic. He also screen prints, and scratch board lends itself to this process very well.

“When I was approached to work on this project, my initial thoughts were of outdoors, summer and water, and the idea that water is such a pivotal point in making beer,” reflected Houston. “I wanted the image to have a mystical quality… Mountains, trees, churning water and salmon with spawning on their minds, in a mystical setting.” For more details of Houston’s image and inspiration, click here.

This summer and fall Breckenridge Brewery is planning promotions in select bars throughout the country that coincide with Leftover Salmon’s tour stops. The events will not only provide fans a chance to collect the Artist Series song download coasters and limited edition Artist Series posters, but also will include special appearances by Leftover Salmon. Dates and cities will be posted online at http://www.breckbrew.com/LeftoverSalmon.

“Imagine having the opportunity to drink a beer with some of the best musicians to come out of Colorado, pick up a free song download and an autographed limited edition poster,” concluded Thibault. “I can’t think of a better way to spend a summer evening.”

For fans who are not able to receive song download coasters, ‘High Country’ will be released via iTunes on August 6th as will the other songs at later dates.

More about Leftover Salmon: www.LeftoverSalmon.com
NPR’s Mountain Stage heralded Colorado’s Leftover Salmon as “one of the most beloved acts on America’s summer-festival circuit” as they’ve returned from an eight year hiatus touring with their new album Aquatic Hitchhiker [released May 22, 2012 on LoS Records]. Stay tuned for new songs from LoS this summer from Breck Beer!

They emerged on the scene in Boulder, CO in 1989 as one of the first bluegrass bands to add drums and tour rock & roll bars, helping Salmon become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the jam grass genre. “This is one fish that has only gotten better with age. Fiery solos and elements of country, bluegrass, jazz and jam rock combine into a heady mix of feel-good tunes — and some that carry a hefty message, as well,” said CMT in 2012.

Looking back over the past 25 years of rootsy, string-based music, the impact of Leftover Salmon is impossible to deny. Today, Leftover Salmon is: Vince Herman (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin); Drew Emmitt (vocals, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, mandola, fiddle); Andy Thorn (vocals, acoustic and electric banjo, National guitar); Greg Garrison (vocals, acoustic and electric bass, acoustic guitar); Jose Martinez (drums, percussion).

More About Breckenridge Brewery: www.BreckBrew.com
Back in the late 80’s (right around when Leftover Salmon was just starting up in the area) Breckenridge’s founder’s homebrewed creations were a hit, and soon he was spending more time brewing than skiing. So he chased after another dream – making exceptional beer for a living and the original Breckenridge Brewery opened in 1990. The founder’s ski bum days were over, and so were the days of bland beer for the folks in Colorado’s ski country.

Today Breckenridge Brewery continues to work hard to satisfy the thirsts of discerning beer drinkers. In the past two decades they’ve grown from a small 3,000-barrels-a-year brewpub to one of the most successful craft beer companies in the nation. They now handcraft nearly 53,000 barrels of fresh beer each year and sell it across Colorado and 35 other states.

About Conscious Alliance: www.ConsciousAlliance.org
Conscious Alliance is a national nonprofit organization committed to hunger relief and youth empowerment. Since 2002, their Boulder, Colorado based 501(c)(3) has provided more than 1.6 million meals to communities across the United States. Operating through ongoing, grassroots food collection – mostly by organizing ‘Art That Feeds’ Food Drives at concerts and music festivals – donations to Conscious Alliance benefit food pantries nationwide and economically isolated Native American reservations. Their organization raises awareness of the extreme poverty on many of these reservations, which are among the nation’s poorest communities, and provides opportunities for Native American youth to explore their creativity and develop strong ties to their culture.
