The Believers on Tour This Summer and Fall

Select Shows with Donna the Buffalo

The BElievers 2013_8845

THE BELIEVERS’ lead singer/songwriters Craig Aspen and Cynthia Frazzini met in Seattle and began a serious love affair with old school Country, Soul and Roots music. Their musical journey began playing a unique brand of music that has since earned them praise from contemporaries Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale and BBC Radio’s Bob Harris, who declared them as simply, “Brilliant.”

The Believers have released three albums and are presently touring in support of their Motown-esque new single, “Gimme Some Love.”

When asked to describe their music, Craig and Cynthia don’t miss a beat saying,  “We’re a rock band with a country problem.”  Britain’s Rock n Reel Magazine recently wrote that THE BELIEVERS are “What Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three might’ve sounded like if they’d jammed with The White Stripes.”

The new single ‘Gimme Some Love’ is their first new recording in five years and was produced by Donna The Buffalo’s Jeb Puryear. The Believers’ Craig Aspen also directed Donna The Buffalo’s most recent video “I Love My Tribe” which debuted on CMT to much praise.

Donna the Buffalo Set To Unveil First Studio Album in Five Years,
Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday, On June 18
More energized and focused than ever before in their near 25-year career, roots-music troubadours Donna the Buffalo will debut their first studio album in five years, Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday, on June 18 via Sugar Hill Records.
The follow up to 2008’s acclaimed Silverlined, which reached the Top 10 on the Americana charts, Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday—the group’s 10th studio album—proves the band as a consistent steward of Americana music, their signature sound—traditional mountain music infused with elements of Cajun, rock, folk, reggae and country—an eclectic and extraordinary melting pot of such.
In creating the new album, founding members and songwriter-vocalists Jeb Puryear (vocals, guitar) and Tara Nevins (vocals, guitar, fiddle, accordion, scrubboard)—joined by band members David McCracken (Hammond organ, clavinet), Kyle Spark (bass) and Mark Raudabaugh (drums)—convened in a rustic church in Enfield, New York, along with co-producer and fellow upstate New Yorker, Robert Hunter (Branford Marsalis). The building overflowed with vibe, and the music poured out as the group recorded take after live take to old-school analog tape, with as few overdubs as possible. What resulted are the 14 organic and authentic tracks that make up Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday.
“We tried to do the record and keep in tact the things people love about us,” says Puryear. “We’re really excited to start sharing Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday,” adds Nevins, “because making this record was a very personal process that was also a lot of fun.”
The album will be worked at Americana and AAA radio this spring and summer, with the emphasis track being “I See How You Are,” a tune penned by Nevins. In addition, the band will be touring heavily throughout the remainder of the year to promote Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday. Festival dates include MerleFest, The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance, Nashville’s Dancin’ In the District, Strangecreek Music Festival, Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival, The Great Blue Heron Festival, Red Ants Pants Festival, Targhee Bluegrass Fest, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival and MagnoliaFest, among many others. About Donna the Buffalo

Closing in on the quarter-century mark, Donna the Buffalo has developed one of most respected ‘brands’ in the world of touring roots acts, along with a well-deserved reputation for crafting social narratives and danceable grooves without equal. With nine studio albums under their belt, the band has been praised as having “earned a reputation as one of the most respected, eclectic and hardest-working acts today” (Encore).

Led by founding members and songwriter-vocalists Jeb Puryear and Tara Nevins, Donna the Buffalo marries musical trailblazing and tradition, their music running the gamut of what is defined as “roots music.” Throughout it’s career the band has traveled millions of miles and spent nearly a quarter of a century performing at the country’s most prestigious festivals and clubs.

Their fervent fan base, nicknamed The Herd, follows the band with zeal and has created a unique and supportive community online and at DTB shows across the nation. As an extension of this community and the band’s own dedication to live roots music, Donna the Buffalo started its own annual event—The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance—20 years ago in upstate New York, which draws more than 15,000 people every year, and have since added to the GrassRoots festival family with Shakori Hills in NC and the Virginia Key GrassRoots Festival in Florida. On June 18, 2013, the band will release its 10th studio album, Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday, via Sugar Hill Records.

I Love My Tribe
by Tara Nevins
Unofficial lyrics
Debut 3/24/12
Transcribed by Linda Dicus

…………………………………………………………………………………
See the world from the shape that I’m in
See the love that put me here
Like a square peg trying to bend
Got to make it through that circle again

Chasing time with worries I keep
I check the signs only now and then
I put my faith yeah in those I believe
Yeah I believe in the love of a friend

Chorus:
You might say it’s like sitting in the front seat
Driving in your favorite car
Well mine was stolen it was not broken
Now I’m looking for another one

I love my tribe (yeah, yeah)
I love my tribe (yeah, yeah)
I love my tribe (yeah, yeah)
I love my tribe

Straight ahead now I’m blowing off steam
Straight up yeah shooting from the inside
Lookout now yeah I’m picking up steam
Wide open with the heartache of a lifetime

Bridge:
Winding up the road
I’m searching for a gear that climbs
Well the brakes are gonna stop
This heart from beating out of time

Have you Herd? Donna the Buffalo will be traveling the country this fall and winter! Sounding better than ever, they have been in the studio this spring and summer working on a 10th album and will be performing new songs, along with the old favorites, up and down the East coast before heading out West for the first time in a few years. Donna the Buffalo is Jeb Puryear on guitar and vocals; Tara Nevins on fiddle, guitar, accordion, scrubboard and vocals; keyboardist Dave McCracken; bassist Kyle Spark; and drummer Mark Raudabaugh.

LISTEN to an interview on Eternal Jamnation with Tara Nevins about the upcoming album, their fall tour, the Grassroots Festivals & more!

Donna the Buffalo’s feel-good, groove-oriented, danceable and often socially conscious music all began over twenty years ago with roots in old time fiddle music that evolved into a soulful electric Americana mix infused with elements of cajun/ zydeco, rock, folk, reggae, and country. The band is known for touring the country and remaining fiercely independent as one of the industry’s most diverse roots-music bands and has “earned a reputation as one of the most respected, eclectic and hardest-working acts today,” praises Encore.

They embark on an almost non-stop tour through the end of 2012 starting at Rhythm and Roots in Rhode Island followed by shows in Pennsylvania, The Dark Star Jubilee in Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Vermont this September before heading back down to North Carolina for their fall Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival in early October. Then they trek back up to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland before returning to Live Oak, Florida for Magnolia Fest in late October.

They’ll be bringing The Herd out West starting with shows in Alabama, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before a host of shows throughout California the first week of November. They complete the West Coast tour in Eugene, Portland, and Seattle and and then make their way back East.

Donna The Buffalo cap off the year celebrating in Florida with shows in Ft. Lauderdale and a three night New Year’s Eve run at Skipper’s in Tampa!  Stay tuned to facebook.com/donnathebuffalo and twitter.com/donnathebuffalo for updates, photos, and videos throughout the tour!
