Vince Herman shares his thought on The Nashville Sessions:
Recording The Nashville  Sessions was like a musical fantasy island for us. We’d have Earl Scruggs come in the morning, Taj Mahal in the afternoon and Waylon Jennings the next day. We were loving it. It’s still dreamlike thinking about it years later. I sure treasure having had the chance to play with such iconic figures, especially those who have passed on, including our brother Mark Vann. I’m going to savor the chance to make music with the great cast of characters assembled at the Ryman that night. Life is short. Art is long. –Vince Herman

Thank you for supporting Leftover Salmon for the past 25 years!

Leftover Salmon Still Smokin’
Setlist and Recap of 420 in the Streets of Denver

Leftover Salmon featuring Bill Payne of Little Feat played to a large crowd this past weekend on Sunday, April 20th. With the entire city a-lit with activities throughout the day, folks gathered in the streets outside of Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, CO, while Method Man and Redman performed inside to a packed house.

“People around the world are looking at Denver on this day…” said Vince Herman to The Denver Post/ Reverb. “I feel really glad that we can have a role celebrating in the streets.”

“It’s a little piece of culture that people can feel they own, and we’re going to see more and more of it,” Herman went on to state.

A bluegrass-focused jam band playing at the same event as a hip-hop act, Herman said is evidence of the different genres and cultures 4/20 brings to Denver. Vince said, “It’s a great indicator of the diversity of music in the Mile High City.”

The gates opened around 2pm with Leftover Salmon featuring Bill Payne taking the stage at 4:20pm. They brought up many guest throughout the day. After kicking off with “The 420 Polka” to celebrate this historic event, Karl Denson joined the band on sax on the majority of the first set. Anders Beck (Greensky Bluegrass), Allie Kral, Silas Herman (Gipsy Moon), Paul Hoffman (Greensky Bluegrass), Bonnie Paine (Elephant Revival) joined in in the second set. Leftover Salmon To Digitally Release 2004 Self-Titled Album on Feb 11th
Bill Payne of Little Feat to Join Leftover Salmon for Several Shows

LS-Thanksgiving'13_DLlogo-12

Leftover Salmon is thrilled to announce that on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 their 2004  album, Leftover Salmon, will be available digitally for the first time on all major digital outlets.

“The self-titled work was a collaboration with producer-friend Bill Payne of Little Feat. Mature yet playful, graceful yet dirty, it became apparent that Leftover Salmon was poised for out-and-out domination” writes Scott Caffrey (2005).

When asked how they came to choose Little Feat member Bill Payne as Leftover Salmon’s producer by Mike Greenhaus (2004), Drew Emmit summed up up the beginning of what was to become a long-term friendship and collaboration:

When we had our benefit concerts for Mark Vann when he was ill, [Little Feat’s] Paul Barrere and Bill Payne came out for those shows and played all five nights. We really formed a connection with them then and they were very supportive. Their presence was amazing and playing music with them was amazing after being such big Little Feat fans. So when we were trying to figure out producers for this record we were just trying to think of who would be really good organizationally—who would really bring all of this together. When Vince and I had gone out to the 25th Anniversary of Little Feat concert with Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Jackson Browne, and Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Payne was the driving force in keeping it all together. So we had this vision of him: not only do we love his music, but he is really great at bringing different sounds together. He plays a particularly beautiful solo on “Whispering Waters”—-it makes me feel like I am at the ocean.

To celebrate the digital release of the album, Leftover Salmon is offering a free stream and download of the track “Whispering Waters” featuring Bill Payne: http://bit.ly/LOSWhisperingWaters.

In true Salmon form, they’ll be performing songs from the album at shows mixed in with other old Leftover favorites, songs from their 2012 release Aquatic Hitchhiker, as well as new tunes release last year through Breckenridge Brewery. Bill Payne meets up with LoS halfway through their Powder Daze Winter Tour at the WinterWonderGrass Festival in Avon, CO this February and then travels on with LoS for shows in Jackson, WY and Victor, ID, then two nights in Big Sky, MT with the tour ending in Missoula. Leftover Salmon will pick back up for their early spring tour starting in late March.

Looking back over the past 25 years of rootsy, string-based music, the impact of Leftover Salmon is impossible to deny. Today, Leftover Salmon is: Vince Herman (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin); Drew Emmitt (vocals, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, mandola, fiddle); Andy Thorn (vocals, acoustic and electric banjo, National guitar); Greg Garrison (vocals, acoustic and electric bass, acoustic guitar); Alwyn Robinson (drums, percussion).

Be sure to tune in to LiveSalmon.com for LIVE-streams of all shows (provided there is access to an Internet connection) and downloads of live performances within a few days of the show.

… those shufflin’ off to the Donna The Buffalo show at Pearl Street Jan. 16 will catch their favorite folk/rock/Cajun/zydeco practitioners as headliners proper for the only time this month.

Prior to the local play, the Buffalo-ians could be found in support of veteran American rockers Little Feat on a mini-tour that included a benefit for Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward, who is battling liver cancer. (Journeyman percussionist Gabe Ford, whose musical pedigree includes having noted jazz/blues guitarist Robben Ford as an uncle and a father who kept time for the likes of Charlie Musselwhite and Jimmy Witherspoon, has stepped in during Hayward’s medical leave). Later this month, DTB will hook up with Nashville roots-rock faves The Believers and head south for a spell.
