The 7th Annual Music Video Asheville (MVA), a showcase to highlight the pairing of Asheville musicians and filmmakers, is calling for submissions to this years event which will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Diana Wortham Theater located at 2 North Pack Square Asheville, NC 28801. The deadline to submit a video for consideration to to this year’s event is Friday, March 14, 2014. Guidelines on how to submit are at www.MusicVideoAsheville.com.

To celebrate the 7th Anniversary of one of Asheville’s favorite music events, the MVA crew is once again rolling out the red carpet…literally. Music Video Asheville strongly suggests “Grammy style” attire (with Asheville flair, of course) and will be offering tickets for preferred seating. Pre-show cocktail hour will take place in the lobby at 6 o’clock. The viewing and awards ceremony will be from 8-10pm.  Tickets are now on sale at Harvest Records in West Asheville and at MusicVideoAsheville.com.

5th Annual MUSIC VIDEO ASHEVILLE
Wednesday, May 9th at Cinebarre

Dress the part and get decked out in your Grammy finest attire* (of with your Asheville flare) and hit the Red Carpet at the 5th annual Music Video Asheville Viewing and Awards show THIS Wednesday, May 9th at Cinebarre, at The Biltmore Square Mall. Gather with your friends, pose for photos, and vote on the crowd favorite. Prizes for winners will include a free day of studio time at Echo Mountain Recording Studios and a $500 cash prize!

Classic cars with chauffeurs will be at the theater parking lot to drop you off for your Red Carpet moment; paparazzi, photo shoot and all! Come in style on the New Belgium VIP Party Bus: it will pick you up at the One Stop downtown and  bring you back after the awards for an After-Parti with DJ’s Molly Parti and Par.

There are 30+ videos in this year’s event shows a broad range of styles from hip-hop to indie rock to americana. Come early, at 6pm, to get in on the great photo opportunities, hang with your friends, and mingle with the filmmakers and musicians. Seating starts at 7:15 with the show promptly beginning at 7:30pm with a brief intermission. At 9:30 the audience ballots (your ticket stub) will be collected. While the votes are tallied, Guest Speaker Tom Taddeo will talk about his experience in working on music videos with Snoop Dog, Tupac, Dr Dre, Ice Cube and answer questions. An awards ceremony will follow.

Pre-show cocktail hour will take place in the lobby from 7-10 complete with limo rides, red carpet and numerous photo ops.

Also NEW to this year, MVA will be hosting an post-awards party at The One Stop starting directly after the event with tunes from DJ Molly Parti!  Stay tuned to the website for more details about the VIP ticketing and the afterparty. MVA tickets will go on sale on April 10th.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS April 6, 2012

All Asheville-area musicians and filmmakers are invited to submit music videos.  Conceptual Music Videos, Live Performance Videos, Music Documentary Shorts and Experimental/ Animated Music Films are all accepted.

Submission Guidelines:
1. Video or film must focus on at least one musical artist currently residing in Buncombe County and must contain at least one song by the artist.
2. Song(s) in the piece must be original
3. There is a $15 submission fee for each video submitted, each individual submission must be under 10 minutes long. Please make your check out to Lush Life Productions.

All submissions may be mailed to: PO Box 17356 Asheville, NC 28816 OR dropped off at Harvest Records in West Asheville on Haywood Road.All submission MUST include the filled out submission form and $15 submission fee.

The video or film must be a standalone clip of the item being submitted in one of the following formats:
1. Best option – send an Apple Pro Res compressed Quicktime at either 1920×1080 or 1280×720
2. Next best option – H.264 Quicktime compression with the highest resolution possible.
Files should be submitted digitally on thumb drive or something similar and be files should be 23.98 FPS

NEW for PC Users: While we appreciate Quicktime files, your entries can also be in mp4 and mov. formats, also in the highest quality settings.

Please note: .Avi, mpeg, basic DVDs or other files will not be accepted.  Do not send press kits, one sheets, bios, photos or any other materials with the submission. Submissions that include these materials or are not in the correct format will not be considered.

Who gets selected for the showcase?

MVA Awards Ceremony:
1. Crowd Favorite Award – At the event, the audience will vote for their favorite video, and the winning artists will receive a $500 cash prize as well as a coveted/quarky MVA trophy.  MVA will also acknowledge a crowd favorite runner up this year.

2. Best of Music Video Asheville 2011- MVA is proud to be offering a the BEST OF MVA Award selected by a jury of film and music industry people. The winner will receive a day of free studio time at Echo Mountain Recording.

Groundbreaking Mentor and Featured Artists for MVA 2011 is Ben Lovett.

Lovett showed three videos and spoke about the films that he has been making for his upcoming album debut, Highway Collection.  Viral video explosion of their first single, “Eye Of The Storm,” directed by Chris Alender with Soapbox Films, is a cinematic gem that has gobbled up a million views in 4 weeks on the web, and it’s follow-up, the foot-stomping, barn burner single, “Heart Attack,” directed by David Bragg with Flying Pig Studios.

FOAM and HATCH Present the 4th annual MUSIC VIDEO ASHEVILLE to showcase the pairing of Asheville musicians and filmmakers. We are thrilled to announce this year’s Music Video Asheville is presented by HATCH and sponsored by Music Allies, Creative Allies, Echo Mountain Recording, and fiscal sponsor The Media Arts Project. The MVA Mission is to increase the awareness and appreciation of Asheville musicians and filmmakers/ videographers by showcasing their collaborative works in a public event. The MVA screening is open to the public and takes place on Wednesday, April 13th, 2010 at the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Asheville starting at 7pm. Tickets are available now for $6 each at the Fine Arts Theater, Mamacitas, Static Age, Harvest Records, and Orbitz DVD.

Music Video Asheville will be highlighting the music video achievements of Ben Lovett and featuring amazing animation video “Eye of the Storm” (See below). MVA is honored to have Lovett give a Q&A session during the event. MVA has invited the producers of his three videos to come and speak as well.

HATCH is a biannual four-day experience that energizes creative professionals and thought leaders who are serious about transforming their ideas and talents into bold action, while inspiring others to do the same.

During HATCH, local studios, galleries, theaters, concert halls, and other select locations throughout downtown Asheville host experiential exhibits, panels, workshops, and networking events. The energy of HATCH surrounds and engages you. HATCH is unique because attendees and sponsors are part of the creative process. Everyone attending has intimate access to influential industry professionals across a range of creative disciplines.

HATCH 2011 will bring over 70 top professionals from seven creative fields to Asheville to act as mentors in film, music, fashion, journalism, photography, architecture, and design & technology. The magic of HATCH comes to life when cross-disciplinary explorations lead to exposure within the creative community, expansion of ideas & actions, and evolution of creative visions.

HATCH is actively engaged in fulfilling the following core initiatives:

Hatch Music: Remix Everything

Join HATCH for ongoing collaborations with the music community and participate in spontaneous creation. There are several Music Panels and Workshops with discussions on how technology is changing our interactions with music.  Find out about more about the at http://hatchexperience.com/music/

GROUNDBREAKERS: Have Your Music Remixed

Hatch is seeking song submissions for bands for Hatch Remix.  Be selected as a Music Groundbreaker and work on a remix of your music with New York City’s DJ Nickodemus and producer Moreno Visini aka Zeb, the Spy From Cairo. Songs should be submitted by Saturday, April 8th and will be considered on quality and the vision that Nickodemus and Moreno Visini have on creating a final remix during HATCH. The winning band(s) will also have the opportunity to work alongside the remixers and will have full rights to release the remix for commercial or promotional purposes as long as they attribute HATCH, Nickodemus, Moreno Visini, Echo Mountain Studio and any engineers. A showcase highlighting the pairing of Asheville musicians and filmmakers

Thursday, April 14th: 5 pm – 7 pm ~ Music Conversation: What’s Working From Who’s Working Workshop ~ Echo Mountain Recording Studio (API)
Join Asheville-based musicians and industry pros for a discussion about making money making music. This is a great opportunity to network with your peers that are musicians, publicists, agents, club bookers and festivals reps and discuss making a living in the music industry.

Thursday, April 14th: 7 pm Doors, 8 pm Show ~ Ben Sollee Live In Concert with special guest ~ Lexington Ave Brewery (LAB) Backroom
Ben Sollee is a classically trained pop cellist who explores contemporary folk music in an urbanized world. He will release his new album entitled Inclusions on May 10th, 2011.* A limited number of tickets will be on sale soon for $20.

Join Hatch attendees, mentors and groundbreakers for a networking event and music performances from HATCH Participants.

Friday, April 15th: 1 pm ~ Panel: Music Remixed ~ Innovators Lounge (Jubilee Downstairs, 46 Wall St)
Everything is changing for music fans, musicians and the music business.   Remix and rethink your perceptions about music. Panelists will explore the changing landscape of music discovery, listening, creation and marketing.  Mentors featured on the panel include:

  • Ben Sollee ~ Cellist, activist, songwriter, performer.
  • Malcolm Campbell ~ Publisher, Spin Magazine.
  • Molly Nagel ~ General Manager, Music Allies / former VP of Artist Development at Sugar Hill Records.
  • DJ Nickodemus ~ Producer, remixer, label owner and NYC’s longest running dance music party promoter.
  • Tor Hansen ~ Co-Owner: Redeye Distribution / Yep Roc Music Group.

Saturday, April 16th: 9pm – 12 am ~ HATCH Closing Party ~ On Broadway
